20th Annual Family Community Day at JPPM

2015-06-18

Chanel 1On Saturday, June 13th, 2015, the NAACP Calvert County Branch presented the 20th Annual African American Family Community Day. Families from all over the county came together at Jefferson Patterson Park to celebrate one another, and support the community!

This family community day was jam-packed with events and showcases of talent from all ages. Families enjoyed the beautiful voices of the Plum UMC Youth Group, Patuxent United Methodist Women’s Choir, and Plum Point Combined Choir. The Bowie State University Community Jazz Ensemble also gave a phenomenal performance, along with the Plum Point Liturgical Dancers.

Families enjoyed a variety of delicious foods such as BBQ, Jamaican, ribs, smoothies and ice cream—perfect for a hot summer day! People who came also supported the many exhibitors who presented their mission to help create positive change throughout the community.

Clinton Bourne commented on the African American Family Community Day by saying “this is a great event, I enjoy it every year. We get a lot of wonderful people to come out, and it is great to see our people come together as one.”

Rhonda Crawley, Development Officer for Ruth’s Miracle Group Home Foundation declared, “This is a wonderful non-profit organization that supports a transitional home for women for a variety of circumstances. We provide a safe, secure place to start a new life. We encourage education such as earning their GED or registering for classes at CSM. Most importantly we help them gain respect, self-esteem and the ability to live independently.” Ruth’s Miracle Group Home foundation will be having their 3rd annual “Moonlight Dance on the Bay” fundraiser Friday, July 10th at Bayview Hall from 8-11pm. Maryland’s very own Lt. Governor Boyd Rutherford will be the special host! For more information on the Moonlight dance or how to donate, visit www.ruthmiraclehome.com.
