On October 17, 2017, DARE Graduation was held at the Calverton School in the Bowen-Thomas Theater. DFC Andrew Clas welcomed all and introduced Christopher Hayes, Head of Calverton, Sheriff Mike Evans and Andrew Rappaport, Senior Assistant State’s Attorney. Each gave a short message to the graduating class. This is DFC Andrew Clas’ 8th year of teaching DARE.
The DARE Essay Award winners were introduced and each read their essay to the audience. The three winners were:
Kamryn Hebert – 3rd Place
Kennedy Manzano-Lee – 2nd Place
Robert Head – 1st Place
Each of the winners were presented with a Darren the Lion doll.
The presentation of DARE Certificates were presented by DFC Andrew Clas, Sheriff Mike Evans, Jennifer Moreland (representing the Calvert Board of County Commissioners) and Senior Assistant State’s Attorney Andrew Rappaport. The graduates were:
Sara Chehy, Charles Crawford, Jacqui Hartigan, Robert Head, Kamryn Hebert, Clare Jackson, Brett Lusby, Kennedy Manzano-Lee, Devin McClanahan, Evan Scott, and Cameron Smith.
The ‘hit’ of the day was the picture slide show, showing the DARE students going through the process of learning and putting to use the DARE principles. There were a number of chuckles from the attendees as they interacted with the pictures!
Heidi Merryman, Head of Lower School, gave the closing remarks and invited everyone to the Lower School Library for refreshments.
Congratulations to all the DARE Graduates for a job well done!
