On Sunday evening October 18 at 7:00 pm at Middleham and St Peter’s Parish Hall (next to SMILE), a seminar on college access and financial aid will be presented by Sonia Wagner, the Director of the Southern Maryland College Access Network (SoMD CAN). Nearly all families – children, parents and grandparents – are stressed with the cost of college. This seminar is directed to Journey to Adulthood youth and parents, but also to all parishioners and to the broader community. Scouts and parents will also really benefit from the seminar. So plan to come and invite your friends.
SoMD CAN’s mission is to increase the college-going rate among the region’s high school students, with specific focus on those students who are first generation college-bound, underserved populations and those who are academically talented. Their goals are to build awareness of and preparedness for the college admissions and financial aid process.
For those attending, this will be a special opportunity to get the detailed information you need – as a student, parent, or grandparent. This is particularly true for accessing nearly 50 local scholarships. SoMD CAN helps to coordinate through the Calvert Local Scholarships application process.
This seminar is sponsored by Middleham and St. Peter’s Planned Giving and Endowment Board. Direct questions to Hugh Davies or Joan Shisler at 410 326 0370.
