We want to change that statistic.
60% of people with disabilities have experienced abuse. This includes emotional, physical, sexual and financial abuse and neglect.
People with disabilities face very specific challenges, often contributing to victimization, including: increased vulnerability, absolute dependence on an abusive partner or caregiver, lack of independence in finances, mistaken belief that people with disabilities are untrustworthy or non-credible as witnesses and speech or cognition difficulties.
We want the individuals we support to receive training that will categorically help them to recognize abuse and neglect in all circumstances and environments. Key features of this training are defining abuse, how to advocate, saying no and how to get help.
We do not currently receive any funding to provide this class to the people we support. The class costs $5,916 to provide training to 300 individuals with disabilities each year.
Please help us educate and protect people with disabilities from abuse by donating today.
A gift of any amount will make a difference!!
