The American Legion Auxiliary Arick L. Lore Unit 274 is proud to sponsor an essay contest as part of The American Legion Auxiliary’s annual Americanism Essay Contest.
Annually the American Legion Auxiliary (ALA) sponsors an Americanism Essay Contest for students in grades 3-8. This year the subject of the contest is “How can we address the health and well-being of our veterans, military, and their families?”
The grade levels and word counts are divided into classes:
- Group I – Grades 3 and 4 – 150-250 words
- Group II – Grades 5 and 6 – 250-300 words
- Group III – Grades 7 and 8 – 350-400 words
The essay may be handwritten or typed, with the signature of the student at the end of the essay. The first page must include the student’s name, address and social security number (optional), teacher verification of grade level, school name and address. Students that are home-schooled are also eligible.
The entries will be judged by a panel of judges that are not members of the ALA organization. The entries will be judged on the choice of subject, its originality and relation to the title; the organization of the subject manner; choice of words and effective sentences. Entries must be received by January 31, 2021. They may be dropped off at American Legion Arick L. Lore Post 274, 11820 H.G. Truman Road, Lusby, MD 20657 or sent to ALA Unit 274, P.O.
