American Legion Post 274 threw their 15th Annual Winter Beach Party on Saturday. The hall showed it was party time at the beach with all the decorations and baby blue tablecloths. In conjunction with the beach party, fundraising was done to benefit the veterans at Charlotte Hall Veterans Home.
Among the silent auction items were a pair of cufflinks and tie clasp, owned by Senator Ed Hall, who was from Calvert County and owned the Calvert Independent, and donated by Tony O’Donnell, an overnight getaway from the Holiday Inn Solomons, and a plane ride and lunch in Cambridge donated by Senator Steve Waugh. Some of the items were unique such as a crab picture made from beer bottle caps by Connie Kontra, beauty baskets from Bella Salon and Hair in the Square, a basket of Italian goodies, and wine, liquor, Bloody Mary and Margarita baskets donated by the legion post 274. Commissioner Steve Weems and Former Commissioner Pat Buehler donated some nice baskets. And Peggy Rivera donated a booze basket and a wine basket. All the baskets were awesome. Monk Wells from Above Average Graphing had a table with a lot of signed sports memorabilia.
Attendees dined on a pig roast and chicken wings from the Grill Sergeant. And of course there was Cole slaw, green beans and baked beans. There was a Skype concert from the Sam Grow Band, which had technical problems, but they called and offered a redo and we will take them up on it. To finish off dinner, there was a large sheet cake done in a beach theme.
To entertain the crowd after dinner, the Dave and Kevin Trio played music benefitting the beach party. There was room for dancing and some did take advantage.
A big thank you to the American Legion Post 274 for allowing us to do the fundraising at their event, especially Tony O’Donnell, Rick Watson for the Skype setup and getting a bartender for the back, Commander Nate Stevens for helping put together table decorations, and Alice London for climbing the ladder to hang the decorations and cleaning up with Kelly Cecil. And to Connie Kontra for coming early and helping set up and decorate.
A special thank you to the following businesses and people for the donations for the auctions:
