Appreciation Day Held for First Responders

2016-09-17

img_4180Calvert County Hosted a Fire, Rescue and EMS Appreciation Day

The Calvert County Commissioners sponsored an Appreciation Day for all the Fire, Rescue and EMS at the Calvert County Fairgrounds on Sunday, September 11th. Originally it had been scheduled in May but was cancelled due to weather. The weather was hot and humid but no one seemed to mind.

In the hall there was a large buffet for the first responders to enjoy before heading outside. On the grounds, one could play cornhole or take part in a kick ball tournament. For the kids there were pony rides and inflatables such as a bounce house. One very interesting ride was driving a toilet around a track! There was also more food vendors, such as Kettle Corn and Root Beer Floats. The floats were extremely popular as everyone was talking about them.  Hardesty Haven and Caney Creek provided some good eats. A favorite Deejay, Keith Hicks, was playing music.

All the First Responders got a tee shirt and a ticket for the door prizes, many supplied by the Calvert County Commissioners. Exelon donated 2 Smart TV’s, IPAD, and a Fit Bit, SMECO a Paddle Board, and Dominion Cove Point ((2)-$250 visa gift Cards.

Kick Ball Championship Trophy went to the Prince Frederick Volunteer Fire Department and the Corn Hole Championship Trophy went to the Huntingtown Volunteer Fire Department.

Ginger Manifold, Fire, Rescue, EMS Recruitment and Retention Specialist coordinates the event each year. She explained that all the first responders attending the event makes it successful. Ginger said thanking the volunteers for serving and protecting our communities’ everyday for FREE and giving them this event is the least we can do. And she also gave a big thank you to the businesses who supported the event.
