New groundbreaking content
On July 6, Historic St. Mary’s City performed the award-winning Adults Only tour of the Plantation. The tour gave visitors a glimpse into the sordid side of Maryland’s past, based on real-life events found in court records from the colony. As part of the museums focus to bring diverse stories to life, the Education department added new content into the tour, which discusses and dramatizes the legal ramifications of relationships between enslaved people and free people during the seventeenth century.
On January 31, 2019, at the 44th Maryland Preservation Awards, Maryland Historical Trust Board of Trustees recognized Historic St. Mary’s City Education Department as the winner of a 2019 Historic Preservation Award for Excellence in Public Programming for the Adults Only tour.
