Qualifying Baltimore Gas and Electric (BGE) customers who may be struggling to manage their energy bills due to the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic will soon receive a one-time payment to their BGE account in the form of a grant from the state of Maryland. The grants will be provided to customers who meet certain requirements determined by the state as part of the $83 million made available through the Recovery for the Economy, Livelihoods, Industries, Entrepreneurs and Families (RELIEF) Act of 2021.
Customers who qualify for a RELIEF grant do not need to take any action and will see it automatically applied to their BGE account in about four to six weeks. BGE is contacting customers directly to inform them of their grant to ensure awareness when they see the grant applied to their bill.
BGE offers programs and services to help those in need, including energy assistance, help for customers with special needs and ways for neighbors to help neighbors. BGE customers who are past due on their BGE bill are strongly urged to contact BGE at 800-685-0123 or bge.com/assistance as soon as possible.
