This is the first review for the restaurants taking part in Calvert County’s Restaurant Week.
Blondie’s is located on Main Street at the front side of the Mark Davis Office Building. It has a beautiful long porch with dining tables for nice weather. The inside shows the wonderful old woodwork and the small rooms. As you enter the door, the counter to order is directly in front of you. Display cases line along the front of the room with all the baked goodies of the day. It’s a hidden gem in old Prince Frederick.
A friend and I decided to have lunch inside as it was a little too cool to sit outdoors. The place was very busy with takeout orders, people buying cupcakes and other goodies, or ordering food to sit in the side rooms and enjoy.
The menu has very interesting names such as sandwiches called The Blonde Bombshell, Ms Britt, Te Usual Suspects, The Abigail, Skinnywich Wrap, S.O.B., D-John Parker. Salads are called Cindy C, Ms Reyna’s Caesar, and Romeo The Greek. You can order half and half, soup and sandwich, soup and side salad, side salad and sandwich or Quiche and side salad. They also offer a cup of soup, side of chicken salad, macaroni salad, side salad or chips. The sandwiches come with Amish pasta salad or chips for $.50.
We ordered iced teas and the Usual Suspect and the S.O.B. The Usual Suspect was sliced turkey, provolone cheese, cranberry chutney, caramelized onions, romaine, and Dijon mayo on white bread. The S.O.B. was turkey, ham, cheddar cheese, bacon, horseradish mayo, and lettuce on sourdough bread.
The food was nice and fresh and tasted really good. Service was quick and it is served on real china. It is not matched service but plates from around the early 1900’s. The mix and match patterns give you a chance to see all the beautiful china in the hutches, on the tables and on the sides of the room. Lending an aire to the décor were the lace curtains and antique furniture.
When you go to Blondie’s, you need to get dessert. So we got cupcakes. Not only were they beautifully decorated but were very tasty, too.
For those who have children, there is a kid’s menu with PB&J or Toasted Mozzarella served with seasonal fruit. The drink menu is quite extensive hot drinks, cold drinks and specialties. If you are looking for breakfast, they serve a limited menu all day.
It was a very pleasant experience. Hope to return and sit outside when spring comes to stay. Nicks of Calvert and Clinton sells Blondie’s baked goods. You can always call ahead and save time. Credit cards accepted.
