Blue Crabs Add to Their Win Column

Blue CrabsChien-Ming Wang made his second start for the Blue Crabs and pitched six innings, allowing three runs on six hits, and striking out five.  Southern Maryland’s offense came through with early runs, and held the lead as the Blue Crabs pulled off the 4-3 victory over the Bridgeport Bluefish.

In the top of the first, Southern Maryland took the early lead.  Fred Lewis led things off with a triple, followed by a Casey Stevenson double to score Lewis to make it 1-0.  In the top of the second, Jake Opitz started the three run rally with a double.  Jovan Rosa then grounded out, and Jamar Walton struck out to make it two out in the inning.  The hot hitting Casey Frawley singled to score Opitz to make it 2-0.  The next hitter Fred Lewis came to the plate and banged a homerun over the wall in right against his former team to make it 4-0.

Bridgeport attempted to climb their way back into the ballgame scoring a run in the second on an Andres Rodriguez double to make it 4-1.  In the bottom of the third, Josh Prince drove in Matt Wessinger with an RBI Groundout to make it 4-2.  In the bottom of the fifth, the Bluefish cut the Blue Crabs lead to one run.  Luis An. Rodriguez doubled with one out.  Two batter later, James Simmons reached on an error by Casey Frawley to score Rodriguez to make it 4-3.

The bullpen combination of Barham, Berg and Hamren pitched three scoreless innings and striking out three to hold the Blue Crabs lead.  Offensively Fred Lewis drove in two runs, while Casey Stevenson, and Casey Frawley each had an RBI in the game.

Southern Maryland and Bridgeport will meet in a day-night doubleheader in game three, and four of the series.  The first game beginning tomorrow at 1:05 P.M.  The second game will begin at 7:05 P.M.
