Blue Crabs Beat Riversharks

2015-06-13

Blue CrabsWith the Camden Riversharks in town for a four game series, the Blue Crabs look to build on their division lead. They started on the right foot with that task tonight as they beat the Riversharks 3-2. As the game started, both teams looked to push a run across the plate early, and it seemed as though both teams would as they both had two base runners on in the their respective first innings. However, the Riversharks struck out to end their threat, and the Blue Crabs hit into a double play to end theirs.

In the second inning, the Riversharks got on the board when a dropped fly ball by right fielder Fred Lewis allowed Eddie Sorondo and Michael Rockett to score. The Blue Crabs came into the dugout for their at-bat trailing 2-0. They quickly erased their deficit and tied it after a Jake Opitz double put himself and catcher Gustavo Molina into scoring position. Both of those Blue Crabs were bat in to tie the game at 2-2 going into the third inning. After this inning, the Blue Crabs pitching staff settled down, and did not allow another runner to third base for the remainder of the game.

The Blue Crabs scored the winning run in the bottom of the fourth inning when Jake Opitz reached base on a single, was bat around the bases by his teammates, and finally knocked in by a Craig Maddox single that put the Blue Crabs up to stay. The Blue Crabs bullpen did a nice job shutting down the Rivershark offense, and only allowed 1 hit over 4 innings of work.

The Blue Crabs will take on the Riversharks again this Friday evening at 7:05, Saturday at 6:35, and Sunday at 2:05.
