After losing both games in Friday’s doubleheader, Southern Maryland won game three of the series 4-1 in front of a season-high crowd of 5,920 at Regency Furniture Stadium in Waldorf Saturday, June 6.
Following the script from the bottom of the first inning from game two of the previous night’s doubleheader, the Blue Crabs got on the board early.
Fred Lewis started the rally with a walk. Renny Osuna, and Zach Wilson both singled to load the bases. Daryle Ward then walked to score Lewis from third.
The next hitter, Gustavo Molina, singled in two runs to make the score 3-0. A couple of hitters later, Jamar Walton knocked in a run with a sacrifice fly to give the Blue Crabs a 4-0 advantage.
The Bluefish got on the board in the top of the sixth on a throwing error by the first baseman Daryle Ward to score Ryan Babineau from second to make it 4-1.
Starter Jake Hale picked up his fifth win, going six innings, allowing a run on five hits, and walking two. The combination of Lewis, Osuna and Wilson scored three runs.
The Blue Crabs will hit the road, and take on the Long Island Ducks in a four game set. Game one will pit RHP Jon Leicester (1-0, 1.20) throwing for Southern Maryland, while RHP Mickey Jannis (3-2, 1.55) will start for Long Island.
