Gov. Hogan Announces Additional Actions to Slow COVID-19 Spread
With Maryland’s positivity rate continuing to rise, Gov. Larry Hogan announced additional actions to slow the spread of COVID-19:
- Effective Friday, Nov. 20 at 5 p.m., all bars, restaurants, and venues serving food and alcohol must close between 10 p.m. and 6 a.m., except for the purposes of carryout and delivery.
- Capacity at retail establishments and religious facilities will be reduced to 50%.
- Hospital visitation is prohibited until further notice with some exceptions. Medical facilities were also warned to avoid any elective procedure admissions that are not urgent or life-saving.
- Until further notice, indoor visitation at Maryland nursing homes will generally be limited to compassionate care. All visitors must have proof of a negative COVID-19 test result within 72 hours prior to their visit.

Rental and Mortgage Assistance Funding Available
To help local tenants and homeowners avoid eviction and foreclosure during the COVID-19 pandemic, the Calvert County Board of County Commissioners approved $300,000 in low-barrier aid funding. Households must apply for aid before Dec. 15, 2020 to receive assistance and aid will be provided on a first-come, first-served basis.

Indoor facility reservations, outdoor team sports and all registrations will be limited to Calvert County residents only. Congratulations to Deputy Director for Animal Services Crystal Dowd on her prestigious Certified Animal Welfare Administrator certification. Received through The Association for Animal Welfare Advancement, this endorsement distinguishes top-level executives who meet strict eligibility requirements for leadership and management and can pass a rigorous exam covering leadership, human resources, finance, fundraising, marketing, administration and animal care.

The Calvert County Department of Public Works, Solid Waste Division, will host a free tire recycling event for Calvert County residents Saturday, Dec. 5, 2020 from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Up to 10 tires per residence or farm will be accepted at the Appeal Landfill, located at 401 Sweetwater Road in Lusby, and Barstow Customer Convenience Center, located at 350 Stafford Road in Barstow. Water or dirt-filled tires will not be accepted. Residents must bring their driver’s license or proof of residency.

The Solomons Business Association will celebrate its 37th year of Christmas Walk with a Lighted Boat Parade on Saturday, Dec. 5. The festivities will begin at 6 p.m., weather conditions permitting. The Lighted Boat Parade will start at dusk near the Solomons Yachting Center (SYC) and end along the Riverwalk at approximately 7:15 p.m. The parade can be easily viewed from many of the restaurants and establishments in Solomons or the Patuxent Riverwalk. Annmarie Garden’s award-winning holiday show will be held from Nov. 27, 2020 through Jan. 1, 2021 from 5 – 9 p.m. To ensure our visitors can safely social distance, all of the activities will be held outside including admissions, the holiday market, photos opportunities, food and drink, and of course, the lights themselves!
