On Friday, May 1, 2020, at 3:19 pm, a serious motor vehicle accident on Route 4 and Town Center Blvd in Dunkirk involved four vehicles. Dunkirk Volunteer Fire and rescue Squad arrived to find one person trapped. Kelly McConkey’s vehicle was rear ended. Kelly McConkey is President of the Board of Calvert County Commissioners.
The crew from Squad 5 performed a total sidewall removal of the driver’s side to remove the patient. The patient was ground transported to a local hospital. Board President Kelly McConkey was flown to PG Shock Trauma by Trooper 2. McConkey was released and is home recuperating.
When asked how he is feeling, Kelly said, “I am banged up pretty bad. Will be a while to recover. Not sure how I lived thru it. My head is swelling pretty bad. Last night was a rough night. I have a concussion, contusion on head, upper back and neck injuries, but now whole body is feeling it”.
Charges are pending by the at fault driver by the Calvert County Sheriff’s Office.
