BOCC Extends State of Emergency Thru January 11th

2021-01-03

The Nation continues to face effects from the life-threatening virus, COVID-19. A state of emergency and catastrophic health emergency was proclaimed by Governor Lawrence J. Hogan on March 5, 2020 and continues to remain under this state of emergency. Due to this public health catastrophe, Kelly D. McConkey, President of the Board of County Commissioners (BOCC) of Calvert County, Maryland, executed Resolution 02-20, a declaration of a local state of emergency on March 17, 2020. As provided in Resolution 02-20, authority exists for a local state of emergency to continue, providing for renewal periods not longer than 30 days, with the approval of the BOCC. The BOCC has taken additional actions to extend this Local Declaration of Emergency through January 11, 2021.

COVID-19 is a respiratory disease that continues to spread easily from person to person and may result in serious illness or death; therefore, staff is requesting an extension of the declaration of a local state of emergency for an additional 30 days, effective immediately upon the expiration of Resolution 55-20, to ensure the health, safety, and welfare of the citizens of Calvert County

The total fiscal impact of this crisis is unable to be determined at this time; however, to date, the County has received $8.2 million from the CARES Act to assist the County in offsetting the local cost to accomplish and provide the protection, prevention, mitigation, response, and recovery efforts from the impacts of this health crisis. Our Department of Finance & Budget has established policies and procedures to track all costs related to the COVID-19 response and recovery from this ongoing health emergency.
