Gov. Hogan Announces Actions to Slow COVID-19 Spread. Because Maryland’s positivity rate is 5.87% for the first time since June, Gov. Larry Hogan has announced a series of actions to slow the spread of COVID-19:
- Capacity decreased to 50% for restaurants and bars
- Citizens are urged against indoor gatherings of 25 people or more
- Businesses are encouraged to take immediate steps to extend telework to employees wherever possible
- Marylanders should refrain from non-essential travel outside of the state

The Calvert County Department of Parks & Recreation announces that Cove Point, Dunkirk and Hallowing Point district parks and Solomons Town Center Park will operate with winter park hours of 8:30 a.m. to 8 p.m., beginning Sunday, Nov. 15. These extended hours will be in effect through mid-March to allow citizens more time to enjoy the county’s active and passive recreation opportunities.
Safe Nights provides winter protection for Calvert County’s homeless by offering shelter in a clean and safe environment. The host shelter will provide a warm bed and breakfast, a bag of lunch and dinner. Shelter hours will run from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m., seven days a week beginning on Jan. 3, 2021.
A one-time in-person registration is required each season and walk-ins will not be accepted. Call Safe Nights of Calvert County beginning Dec. 10, 2020 at 443-486-8670 for more information. Those in need of shelter before Safe Nights opens in January can receive assistance by contacting the Department of Social Services at 443-550-6900; Department of Community Resources at 410-535-1600, ext. 8802; or Public Safety at 410-535-1600, option 6.
