“The Calvert Alliance Against Substance Abuse, Inc. (CAASA) Elects Officers for 2019-2020, New Board Members and Honors Community Volunteers for their Prevention Efforts”
At their Annual Meeting and Awards Program on October 28th, the Calvert Alliance Against Substance Abuse, Inc. (CAASA) elected officers for 2019-2020. They are Debbi Mister, President; Kristen DePhillip, Vice-President; and JoAnn Faber, Secretary. In addition, CAASA elected new Board Members Marcia Claggett; Leslie Parker; Kimberly Shoe; Karley Trinidad, Student Rep., Patuxent High School; and Taya Sirman and Lena Sirman, Student Reps., Huntingtown High School.
CAASA’s Board of Directors welcomed guest speaker, Gabe Stewart, Teacher and Coach, who shared his story of trauma, substance misuse, and the importance of finding your hidden talent and sharing it with others. His comments on resiliency were inspiring. The evening also provided the opportunity to honor over 50 individuals, local businesses, and community groups for their alcohol and other drug prevention efforts in Calvert County. CAASA presented Eagle Awards, their highest honor, in four categories. The 2019 recipients are:
Business Eagle Award – Quality Built Homes
Bateman Community Eagle Award – SOLID Team, Calvert County Sheriff’s Office
Education Eagle Award – Caitlin Fregelette, Calvert High School
CAASA Board of Directors’ Eagle Award – Kristen DePhillip
Award recipients are leaders in our community who worked tirelessly to promote CAASA’s prevention efforts in Calvert County through numerous program partnerships and volunteer efforts.
