The illness of addiction is difficult to understand and, for some, difficult to detect in a loved one or friend. In an effort to offer community education on this issue, CAASA is continuing their “Let’s Talk” Workshop Series.
The first workshop entitled, “Let’s Talk” Signs and Symptoms of Substance Abuse, will be held on Monday, March 4th from 6:30 to 8 p.m., at the Harriet E. Brown Community Center, 901 Dares Beach Road, Prince Frederick. Presenter, Stephanie Newman, MS, LCPC, LCADC, NCC, Duel Diagnosis Counselor, Calvert Behavioral Health Services, will facilitate the evening’s discussion. POSITIVEVIBES will be on hand with the “Hidden in Plain Sight” display. This is an interactive awareness exhibit for parents and other adults to assist with recognizing the environmental signs of alcohol and other drug use in their home.
The second workshop, “Let’s Talk” Mental Health and Your Teen: What’s the Connection to Substance Use? will be held on Tuesday, May 7th, from 6:30 to 8 p.m., at the Harriet E. Brown Community Center, 901 Dares Beach Road, Prince Frederick. The workshop will be led by Christina Spangler, Southern Maryland Regional Supervisor, Maryland Coalition of Families.
“CAASA is pleased to offer these “Let’s Talk” workshops. Substance use disorder affects many families and it’s important to provide programs that offer information that is helpful with a family’s journey through addiction and recovery,” states Debbi Mister, President, Board of Directors, Calvert Alliance Against Substance Abuse, Inc. (CAASA).
This is a free event. Refreshments will be provided. Due to limited seating, reservations are required. To register or for more information, call 410-535-3733.
