Tuesday, October 8; Thursday, October 10; & Wednesday, October 16 – Sea Squirts
10:15 a.m. – 10:45 a.m. FREE drop-in program for children 18 months to 3 years old and their caregivers. This month’s theme is Tales from the Tackle Box. Space is limited.
Saturday, October 12 – Patuxent River Appreciation Day (PRAD)
10 a.m. – 7 p.m. The museum is open and FREE to the public. Festivities includes food vendors, live music, boat rides, children’s activities, and an arts and crafts show. This year’s event will contain a weekend’s-worth of fun, all in one day, with extended hours and a River Party from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Local favorite Robbie Boothe will perform live at the PNC Waterside Pavilion at 6 p.m. Find even more information, including a complete listing of live music for the day on our Facebook page or at calvertmarinemuseum.com/PRAD.
Friday, October 18 – Dino Daze
11 a.m. – 3 p.m. Be a paleontologist for the day! Learn all you can about dinosaurs while having fun and playing games – fossils have never been so exciting! Ongoing activities include: digging for “dinosaur bones” in the Discovery Room sandbox, a scavenger hunt filled with fun dinosaur facts that ends with cracking open a dinosaur egg, and making your own dino hat. Scheduled activities at 11:30 a.m., 1:30 p.m., and 2:30 p.m. include: excavating real fossils from matrix, singing special dinosaur songs, and learning the dinosaur stomp dance. Activities appropriate for ages 4-10. Program included with museum admission.
Friday, October 18 – Maritime Performance Series presents Stephen Wade
7 p.m. in the Harms Gallery. Award-winning musician and author Stephen Wade explores how traditional musicians reinvent songs, tunes, and stories. How, in the act of putting their hands on a classic tune, gifted players transform the music while connecting it to its history and to their own communities. Doors open at 6 p.m. with beer and wine available for sale. Tickets are $20 online at calvertmarinemuseum.com/Maritime-Performance-Series and $25 at the door.
Saturday, October 19 – Fossil Field Experience
9 a.m. – 2 p.m. Come explore the fossils of Cove Point with a trained museum educator. Learn where to find fossils, how to identify them, and the secrets they hold about Earth’s prehistory. Return to the museum after lunch for tours of our paleo hall and fossil prep lab, before exploring the rest of the museum at your leisure! For ages 8 and up. Sunday, October 20 – Coffee & Doughnuts
10 a.m. – 11 a.m. in the Museum Store. Museum members are invited for coffee and doughnuts. Enjoy a 20% discount all day and, as a special treat for coming in early, receive a FREE gift with your purchase of $50 or more. Gifts are limited to one per membership, and only available while supplies last, so plan to arrive early!
Sunday, October 20 – Dee of St. Mary’s Public Sail
2:30 p.m. – 4:30 p.m. Sail on the Dee of St. Mary’s, leaving from the museum dock. Fee is $25 for ages 13 and up, $15 for children 5 – 12. No children under 5 please. Preregistration is required; visit calvertmarinemuseum.com/Dee-Sails to register.

10:30 a.m. – 11:30 a.m. A program for children ages 3 to 5 years and their caregivers. This month’s theme is Messy Day! Fee is $5, CMM members are FREE.
Friday, October 25 – Maritime Performance Series presents Hanneke Cassel Band
7 p.m. in the Harms Gallery. Presented by the Southern Maryland Celtic Society and the Calvert Marine Museum. The Hanneke Cassel Band features Tristan Clarridge on cello and Keith Murphy on guitar/vocals. Effervescent and engaging, Boston-based fiddler Hanneke Cassel is a performer, teacher, and composer whose style is a blend of the contemporary and traditional. This performance is sponsored in part by the Ruddy Duck Brewery & Grill, Solomons. Tickets are $30 at the door, discounts available online at cssm.org/tickets.
