Elects New Officers
On Monday, September 10, 2018, Calvert Meals on Wheels held its Annual Meeting at the Calvert Pines Senior Center. The organization honored volunteer drivers, board members, delivery route coordinators, and deceased volunteers. Kelly Chambers, President, and CEO of United Way of Calvert County was the guest speaker gave an inspiring speech that energized the volunteers. CMOW honored deceased volunteers who have served 10 years or more by placing their names on a plaque that hangs in an Office of Aging conference room.
This year CMOW honored Jack and Doris Johnson, Jacquline Justice, Rose Byrd, and Florence Wilkerson. CMOW also presented certificates to two volunteers from the ARC of Southern Maryland for their service-Anthony Jones and Adam Deadlock. Calvert County Commissioner Mike Hart presented a proclamation honoring CMOW during the meeting on behalf of the Board of County Commissioners of Calvert County. The proclamation read in part “WHEREAS, the volunteers of Meals on Wheels have provided invaluable service to our senior participants, by serving as Board members, drivers, food deliverers, and volunteer coordinators.”
CMOW elected Shirl Hendley CMOW President, succeeding Barbara Harris. Other elected officers included Randy Holt, treasurer; Linda Rhodes, corresponding secretary; Lora Culver, recording secretary; and Charlie Pritchard, director. The Board also includes other directors and delivery route Coordinators, and ex-officio Office on Aging (OOA) staff members.
Calvert Meals on Wheels mission is to help homebound people who are unable to prepare meals to live more independently. CMOW delivers a meal and a smile five days a week. CMOW is an all-volunteer organization governed by a Board of Directors. Volunteers consist of drivers who deliver meals, delivery route coordinators who manage eight routes throughout the county and board members. OOA is the central contact point for clients and assists CMOW in the overall operation of the program.
