Calvert Shows Appreciation for Business

Commissioners President WeemsTenth Annual Business Appreciation Week Scheduled for May 4-9, 2015

The Calvert County Board of County Commissioners (BOCC) and the Department of Economic Development observe Business Appreciation Week each year to showcase and celebrate local businesses. This year’s 10th anniversary Business Appreciation Week (BAW) will be held May 4-9 and will feature a host of special events and activities to thank businesses of all sizes for their contributions to the county’s economy and quality of life.

In keeping with our 10th anniversary theme we will recognize companies which are celebrating a decade of success. The week will include special events, workshops and networking activities and personal visits with county business owners by the BOCC.

Monday, May 4

BAW Evening Kick-Off Reception, invitation only

Tuesday, May 5

Board of County Commissioners Company Site Visits with Ambassador Teams

11:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m., various locations

Wednesday, May 6

Workshop Event: IRS Small Business News and Notes

9-11 a.m., College of Southern Maryland Prince Frederick campus, Building B

This workshop presented by the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) will cover general tax information for current and new small business owners.  In addition, IRS representatives will discuss the Small Business Health Care Tax Credit and third-party payer issues. FREE; seating is limited.

Women’s Business Roundtable Networking Event

“Healthy in a Hurry,” featuring Gwyn Novak, chef/owner of No Thyme to Cook

6-8 p.m., 205 Main St., Courthouse Square Building, Planning Commission Hearing Room

Prince Frederick

Gwyn Novak will demonstrate how to prepare easy, healthy meals. Included is an open forum in which women business owners and women in the workplace can network.

Cohosted by the Small Business Development Center and Calvert County Department of Economic Development. FREE; seating is limited.

Thursday, May 7

Calvert County Chamber of Commerce Business After Hours Mixer

5:30-7 p.m., 132 Main St., Prince Frederick

Network with other business owners in a casual atmosphere. Hosted by Davis, Upton, Palumbo & Dougherty, LLC. FREE; open to Chamber members and non-members.

Friday, May 8

Commercial Bankers Appreciation Breakfast and Networking Event, invitation only

Saturday, May 9

Small Business in a BIG Way Mini Community Festival

12-4 p.m., 36 Dalrymple Road, Sunderland

Celebrate the culmination of BAW. Bring your entire family for food, fun, community resources, door prizes, demonstrations and much more. FREE; hosted by Calvert County Minority Business Alliance.
