The Board, in their recent meeting, affirmed their resolve to attract and retain the best teachers. To that end, we are casting a wide net to attract independent school professionals to join our current group of fine Calverton teachers.
We are currently searching for an International Baccalaureate experienced independent school teacher and department chair to lead the History Department.
We are pursuing an IB Visual Art teacher
We are seeking a K-12 Information Specialist who will not only continue to develop the lower school library program and will also assist the design and implementation of the 21st Century Learning Commons that will replace the current middle and upper school library.
After examining the world language program, the department came to a decision that with the lower school Spanish program in full swing, it makes sense to offer a new conversational French and Spanish class in sixth grade. Students will take one semester of each language and at the end of grade six, students will select either French or Spanish as their ongoing language of study. We are now searching for a part time middle school French and Spanish teacher.
With the understanding that a great college prep school needs to have a great college counseling program, William Wright will be moving out of the classroom into a full time role as the Director of College Counseling. This will allow him to build a formal college counseling program that begins in the ninth grade and ends with our students continuing the Calverton tradition of matriculating at the nation’s finest colleges and universities. This year’s college list already includes NYU, UCLA, and George Washington University. A complete list will be forthcoming.
In addition to the program changes that have resulted in the personnel searches noted above, we are looking forward to an expansion of our fine and performing arts programs in order to take better advantage of professional quality space.
The improvements include:
A major all school drama or musical production next winter.
Club opportunities in the upper elementary grades of the lower school that will allow students to explore woodwind and brass instruments.
A music production elective in the upper school taught by Bryan Frates.
