Transportation Department Pilots Bus Status Page on Website
There are many reasons why a bus may run late: congestion, mechanical failure, returning a student to school because no one is home, and traffic accidents, just to name a few. The Department of Transportation and bus contractors work diligently to minimize the unavoidable impact of such delays. In order to provide the community with real-time updates, Transportation is piloting an online method for schools and families to check on the status of a late bus. The pilot schools for the program are Northern High, Northern Middle, Plum Point Middle, and Plum Point Elementary. These four schools were chosen because they represent buildings at the elementary, middle, and high school levels in two distinct geographic locations and feeder patterns within Calvert County.
Starting on April 20, 2015 a new screen will be activated on the Transportation page on www.calvertnet.k12.md.us. This screen will be called “Bus Status.” After a bus driver or bus contractor notifies Transportation that a bus may be ten minutes or more behind schedule, a Transportation staff member will post the information on the “Bus Status” page.
Please note that Transportation already has a five minute bus “window” in place. Students should be at the bus stop five minutes before the typical arrival time of the bus and may have to wait five minutes after the typical arrival time. Only delays that may cause a bus to run ten minutes late or more will be reported on the website.
Anyone with internet access on a computer or smartphone will be able to go to the Transportation page on the Calvertnet website, click on the link to “Bus Status,” and have immediate information about a late bus.
