Mike Theesen, aka The Grill Sergeant, is a law enforcement officer, who has a fondness for cooking, especially barbecue. In 1996, he started doing backyard barbecues. He arrived in Solomons in 2003, in the Tiki Bar parking lot, with a 1950 Hobart slicer and a shoebox for a cash register, under a tent.
Mike was finally able to purchase concession trailers the next year and worked out front of the Tiki Bar. Taking it to the next level, in 2006 and 2007 he built the Grill Sergeant Restaurant. And there began a journey of catering some of the biggest events in Southern Maryland, including benefits and fundraisers ever since. It was a joy and left great memories in the minds of those who attended.
“Presently, due to circumstances beyond our control, we are currently relocating”, said Mike Theesen. “And just to let you know, we are still doing catering and we will still be doing the big events as we have in the past. We are turning the page and moving forward”.
“We are looking forward to having a place to sit down and eat barbecue, listen to live entertainment such as Tracy Allen and Michael Burrell, along with other bands, all year around” continued The Grill Sergeant.
“In the meantime, we want to thank all our customers, especially our employees and my wife Mary, who put in many long hours, making sure everything was done right”, Mike said. “And the great unbreakable friendships we have made. And for all their support including Calvert County Sheriff’s Office, Solomon’s Volunteer Fire Department, Emergency Management and all the rest who supported us. We support all the businesses, especially the small ones. Please say ‘hi’ whenever you see me and I will say ‘hello’ back. We value each and every one of you!
“We will do followups to let our fans know where we are going to be located and hope you will come by and ‘Put Some South in Your Mouth’ at our new place”, Mike Theesen said.
