The youth of Calvert County represent our most treasured resource; the accomplishments, achievements, and abilities of these young citizens deserve the recognition and praise of their elders.
The Calvert High School Girls’ Soccer Team, the Lady Cavaliers, under the leadership of Head Coach John Baker, won their second Maryland Public Secondary School Athletic Association Class 2A State Championship. The Lady Cavaliers defeated the Middletown Knights of Frederick County, with a final score of 2-1 in double overtime, completing a 14-3 season. Marking the fourth 2A South Regional Championship for the Lady Cavaliers, nine players were named to All-County teams, six players to the Southern Maryland Athletic Conference All-Conference team, one player was named All-State, and five players have been nominated for All-Met teams.
The members of Calvert High School State Champion soccer team are Mackenzie Alonso, Alex Baker, Kayla Bevard, Kiley Fling, Sarah Frankel, Alison Halstead, Bridget Han-is, Abigail Howerton, Flor Katz-Starr, Makenna Kelsey, London Lewis,Hannah Matteson, Mia Meredith, Morgan Myers, Abigail Noftsier, Kristen Prince, Sylvia Santoyo, Serenity Thomas, Kaitlyn Vilkoski,Claire Williams, Kalli Williams, and Hannah Wilt, with the assistance of coaches John Baker, Brandon Owen, and Tracey Williams.
The Calvert Board of County Commissioners wished to pay tribute to the dedication, many long hours of practice, fine performance, and accomplishments of the Calvert High School Girls’ Soccer Team, as well as family, friends, coaches, teachers, and fans for supporting, encouraging, and enabling these fine athletes to perform.
On December 10, 2019, the Calvert Board of County Commissioners proclaimed sincere congratulations and best wishes for continued success and were extended to the young ladies of the Calvert High School Girls’ Soccer Team on winning the 2019 Class 2A State Championship. It was further proclaimed that appreciation and thanks be extended to the coaches for their guidance and encouragement to the team.
