On Sunday, May 31, 2015, DFC Sloane was patrolling Cove Point, when he noticed a vehicle driving back and forth. The car had Pennsylvania tags and the he became suspicious. DFC Sloane pulled the vehicle over. A second vehicle with out of state tags was also pulled over and searched.
A search with a K-9 produced an unlabeled pill bottle with prescription medicine in it. Kaitlyn Anne Rorke, 29, of Baltimore, Maryland told the officers the pills were hers but couldn’t produce the needed proof that they were legally hers. It is against the law to carry prescription medicine in an unlabeled container. Rorke was arrested and charged with two counts of possessing a controlled, dangerous substance. She is due in court on September 4, 2015.
Captain Steve Jones, Special Operations, said that the vehicles’ occupants originally refused to tell the officers what they were doing. When we found out the reason that they were there was to walk on Cove Point Beach as a protest, we wished they had let us know about Sunday’s event so we could have helped them. We didn’t know what to expect.
