The College of Southern Maryland (CSM) announces its 2017-18 fine arts program, which includes visual art shows, theater productions for adults and children, dance performances, musical concerts, recitals and readings by nationally known authors and poets. Added to the schedule this season is the CSM Faculty Excellence Lecture Series: “Provocations.”
The CSM Faculty Excellence Lecture Series: “Provocations” will feature different CSM faculty leading challenging discussions thought-provoking topics. CSM Adjunct Instructor of Communication Dr. Sheri Dean Parmelee will give a talk at 7 p.m., Oct. 13, in Room 102 LR Building (La Plata Campus). Parmelee will discuss, “‘House, M.D.,’ and Indirect Communication: Provocation to Thought,” where, referencing the television program, she will focus on how indirect communication devices such as sarcasm, metaphor and deception shape our world views and provoke us to thought. Admission is free.
The Renaissance Festival will be celebrated at the La Plata Campus. Festivities commence on Friday, April 20, 2018, at 7 p.m. in the Fine Arts Center Theatre with “The Impostures of Scapin” by Molière. There will be more showings at 2 and 7 p.m. April 21; and 3 p.m. April 22. For more festival fun on the Fine Arts Center lawn, come by from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. April 21 and 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. April 22.
There will be dance performances at the La Plata Campus at 7:30 p.m. Dec. 11 and 7:30 p.m. May 7. CSM’s Dance Ensemble performs a variety of pieces to appeal to all lovers of dance.
