CSM Hosts Blue Mountain Ensemble

The Blue Mountain Ensemble performs music from diverse style periods written for flute, bassoon and piano, while also seeking existing repertoire that adapts well to the ensemble. The group actively explores and develops new works that include other instruments or voices, particularly percussion. Blue Mountain performs music from diverse style periods written for flute, bassoon, and piano, and also adapts repertoire for this colorful combination. The group actively explores and develops new works that include other instruments or voices, particularly percussion. The name is taken from exceptionally beautiful and diverse natural areas worldwide carrying the name Blue Mountain. The group’s engaging and varied programming mirrors the contrasting environments of these places: serene, young, old, laid-back, joyful, and rugged. Members have performed as artist-teachers throughout the United States and Europe, and in Canada, Australia, New Zealand, and China.

Michael Burns is a Yamaha Artist and Professor of Bassoon at UNC-Greensboro. He is an active performer nationally and internationally in orchestral, chamber, and contemporary ensembles as well as a published composer. Carla Copeland-Burns is Instructor of Flute at UNC-Greensboro and performs with the Greensboro, Salisbury, and NC Symphonies as well as the NC Opera, Carolina Ballet, Blue Mountain, and the performer/composer collective Forecast Music.
