CTA Partnership With VFD’s Allow Cadets to Earn Certifications

2022-04-09

The Calvert County Career & Technology Academy (CTA) has a partnership with the Calvert County Volunteer Fire Departments to allow cadets the opportunity to learn and obtain fire, rescue and EMS certifications while in still high school. This years cadets features members from every department in the county.

Today, CTA cadets had a station visit at Company 1. They were taught standpipe operations, given a tour of the station and apparatus; specifically Boat 1. Being the only fire boat in the county of this caliber, cadets were taught all aspects of the boat and it’s capabilities.

Our CTA cadet, Billy Phipps, started out at our department when he was 13 year’s old and has worked his way up to be an integral part of our department. He continues to take MFRI classes, goes to school, has a part time job and even finds time to take care and help out around his family farm.

Interested in becoming a cadet and serving your community in the Fire Department? Stop by the station at anytime for an application, or on our website at northbeachfire.com
