Maryland’s largest insurer, CareFirst Blue Cross Blue Shield, requested a rate increase of over 50 percent!
CareFirst CEO Chet Burrell said the current system is no longer sustainable.
Maryland Insurance Commissioner Al Redmer will make a decision on CareFirst’s request in the near future.
Prior to ObamaCare, there were 7 major health insurance providers in Maryland, now, there are only two — and one is on its way out.
One thing is clear – the lack of competition in Marylanders will cause hefty increases in insurance prices.
Hypocrisy on Environmental Budget Cuts
Progressives have been critical of Governor Hogan for not doing enough to protect the Chesapeake Bay. Nothing could be further from the truth.
Governor Larry Hogan budgeted and spent over $3 billion to restore the Chesapeake Bay. In his first 3 years in office, Governor Hogan spent more than O’Malley’s last three years in office.
But, this does not tell the whole story.
In reality, the O’Malley administration raided nearly $300 million from the Bay Restoration Trust Fund to spend elsewhere. As a result, the modernization of Maryland’s wastewater treatment plants was halted.
Both Senate President Mike Miller and House Speaker Michael Busch supported these budgets.
