The Office of the State Fire Marshal is proud to announce the official swearing-in of Deputy State Fire Marshal Timothy J. McDonald. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, McDonald could not be officially sworn in by State Fire Marshal Brian S. Geraci.
Deputy State Fire Marshal McDonald was appointed on September 11, 2019, and began the Carroll County Sheriff’s Office Training Academy on September 23rd. As concerns of COVID-19 escalated in late February, academy staff accelerated the training curriculum. It covered all of the entry-level objectives set forth by the Maryland Police and Correctional Training Commission and COMAR. After graduating, McDonald was on modified field training before finally being able to partner with senior personnel in the field. MacDonald successfully completed the nearly 600-hours of additional OSFM field training and was authorized to work independently and autonomously on September 1, 2020.
McDonald will continue his studies in fire, arson, and explosion investigations by attending numerous courses at the National Fire Academy, Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms & Explosives, National Center for Explosives Training Center, as well as the International Association of Arson Investigators and National Association of Fire Investigators.
McDonald is a native of Montgomery County, Pennsylvania, and is currently assigned to the Lower Eastern Regional Office serving Dorchester, Wicomico, and Somerset counties.
