Join Wildlife and Heritage Service and Maryland Coastal Bays Program staff for an engaging and hands-on professional development workshop. Through activities involving language arts, science and math experiences, Growing UP WILD and Flying WILD offer an interdisciplinary approach to environmental education.
In the morning, we will dive into the award-winning Growing Up WILD curriculum which includes developmentally appropriate activities for preK-2nd grade students. As a group, we will model activities that include early childhood STEM, dramatic play, and more! In the afternoon, we will model activities from the widely adaptable Flying WILD curriculum supplement. Using bids as a focus, we will explore activities that teach about concepts such as adaptations, migration, and bird behaviors.
Throughout the workshop, participants will get to experience activities first-hand. Participants who complete the professional development will receive their own copies of the Growing Up WILD and Flying WILD curriculum supplement guides.
Fee: Free; fees are sponsored by the Wildlife and Heritage Service and Maryland Coastal Bays Program; please bring a bagged lunch
Credit: Childcare providers may receive up to 3 hours of continuing education credit in elective curriculum from MSDE.
Audience: Educators, daycare providers, community leaders, etc who work with students in grades K-8.

Join National Aquarium staff for a hands-on and fun-filled professional development centered on wildlife and conservation. Project WILD is an award-winning curriculum supplement that contains over 100 interdisciplinary activities designed to teach about wildlife while learning basic skills in science, social students, language arts, math, art, music and physical education. Throughout the workshop, educators will get a chance to model activities. Upon completion of the workshop, participants will receive the two Project WILD curriculum guides that have been expanded to contain field investigations & STEM connections! Project WILD activities address Common Core, Next Generation Science Standards, and Maryland Environmental Literacy Standards.
Fee: $15; Aquarium admission is included; please bring a bagged lunch
Credit: Educators who take 3 of 5 certified trainings may be eligible for 1 MSDE continuing education credit.
