On June 23, Dominion Cove Point sponsored a fundraiser for Calvert County Parks and Rec at Chesapeake Hills Golf Course. This is in support of the Therman Gray Memorial Scholarship Fund. The fundraiser provides money for youngsters who might otherwise not be able to play sports or go to camps. The Sports Office sponsors and co-sponsors a variety of sports activities for youth and adult participants. Youth programs sponsored by the CCPR Sports Office include fall soccer, cheerleading, basketball, wrestling, summer sports camps, tennis, golf lessons and night golf tournaments at Chesapeake Hills Golf Course.
On this great weather day, 28 teams from Calvert County Government, Calvert County Sheriff’s Office and local businesses came to play some golf. Joe Klausner, Technology Services Director, Mark Willis, Director Community Planning and Building, Paula Gray, Personnel Director, Doug Meadows, Director Parks and Recreation, Sheriff Mike Evans, and Commissioner Tom Hejl were there to support the scholarships. Even Mike Frederick, Vice President of Dominion Cove Point LNG came ready to play but according to the team sheet, his team was TBD! They must have shown up as his team had a respectful 68 under par. And in this tournament there were no mulligans or interactive holes. But hole #16 promised a new car from Bayside Toyota for a “hole in one”! Alas, no one accomplished the “hole in one”.
Everyone got a goodie bag with a lime green golf shirt and other golf necessities. And there was a brisk business by those in charge selling 50/50 raffle tickets.
At the end of the day. Ist place went to team 1B – Oliff, Oliff, Hoffman and Pfeiff with 61 under par.
And 2d Place went to team 15B Sterling, Lewis, Emely, and Brittingham with 62 under par.
