The Calvert Community Foundation presented a $1,000 mini grant to East John Youth Center at a ceremony on April 18, 2015 at King’s Landing Wisner Hall.
In keeping with the Foundation’s emphasis on improving the lives of citizens in the community, East John’s “3 on 3 Basketball Challenge” was selected to provide an opportunity for youth to foster teamwork and promote physical fitness. The program will be a co-ed tournament offered after school and on weekends with two age groups: middle school and high school. It is anticipated that 40 youth will participate in this event, which will be held at East John’s outdoor basketball court facility. Teams will be provided with jerseys, which they will be allowed to keep once the tournament is completed.
The Calvert Community Foundation is a component fund of Chesapeake Charities, an independent 501(c)(3) community foundation serving the people of the Chesapeake Bay region.
