The Blue Crabs claim the Atlantic League Pitcher of the Month in July of 2022, as Eddie Butler takes home the award. The former Big Leaguer had a terrific start to the month, pitching 20.1 innings, allowing only three runs across three starts.
When speaking about his first three starts this month, Butler noted, “I changed my mentality.” The right-hander drew some inspiration from his former roommate, McKenzie Mills, who won the ALPB Pitcher of the Month in June. Butler told Mills, “I’m coming for your title,” and matched Mills the next month.
Butler finished the July with a 5-0 record and a 3.49 ERA, walking only 10 batters across 38.2 innings. The Blue Crabs’ starter called walks “a big pet peeve,” as he prefers to attack the strike zone.
Butler looks to start August on the right note as he gets the start on Saturday.
