ERC Recognized Environmental Planner Marney as Employee of the Month

2022-03-22

The Employee Recognition Committee (ERC) was created on January 1, 1982. The ERC’s mission is:

To recognize employees for years of service. To create and maintain a positive work environment.

To create and maintain a culture of recognition. To motivate high performance.

The Employee of the Month award is one way we achieve this mission. The Employee of the Month award acknowledges individual excellence for superior job performance. The categories for recognition are quality of work, respect of fellow employees, effectiveness of public contact, contributions toward improving organizational morale, quantity of work, and/or actions that improve the public image of Calvert County Government.

The ERC is pleased to announce that Ron Marney, Planning & Zoning Environmental Planning Regulator, was selected as the February 2022 Employee of the Month. This special award was presented on behalf of the Board of County Commissioners on Tuesday, March 1, 2022.

The Calvert County Board of County Commissioners recognized Environmental Planning Regulator Ron Marney with the Department of Planning & Zoning as the February 2022 Employee of the Month.

Ron is an expert in his field and always goes the extra mile to help customers make their projects a reality, while also ensuring they adhere to local and state requirements. Over the past few months, Ron’s supervisors received many notes on his excellent work and support. It speaks volumes for customers to take time to contact a supervisor regarding one’s quality of work, professionalism and customer service. Ron is a role model to many and a valuable member of the Planning & Zoning team.

In June 2021, Ron was promoted from his previous position as rural planner to Environmental Planning regulator. Since then, he has not only learned his new position but excelled in it by keeping up with his permit reviews, new workload and scope of work, and continuing to cover the work of his previous position as a rural planner. Both positions carry a high level of demanding work and can be quite complicated at times due to the extensive regulations for the critical area program, floodplain and the Agricultural Preservation Program. He has not only kept up with the majority of the duties for both positions, he has done so without a support planner.

The Department of Planning & Zoning is very thankful to Ron for his continued willingness to do everything necessary to keep both positions moving forward during this time despite staff vacancies.

Thank you for your hard work and congratulations, Ron!
