On July 8, 2015 at approximately 7:18 pm, members of the Calvert County Sheriff’s Office Patrol Bureau and Crash Reconstruction Team responded to the area near the intersection of Fifth Street and Sam Owings Place, Owings, Maryland for a report of a motor vehicle crash involving a single vehicle.
Preliminary investigation revealed a 2006 Chevrolet Silverado was traveling southbound on Fifth Street when the vehicle left the roadway at Mary Ann Road and entered the shoulder striking a speed limit sign. After a correction by the operator to the left the vehicle crossed the center lines into the westbound lane. The vehicle entered the westbound shoulder, still traveling eastbound on Fifth Street, at Sam Owings Place. After traveling in the westbound shoulder the vehicle struck several trees and came to final rest against a tree partway down a steep embankment. Operator, who was the sole occupant, was entrapped in the vehicle and was pronounced dead by the emergency medical personnel on the scene.
The Chevrolet was operated by Ricky Charles White, a 55 year old male, of North Beach, Maryland. The evidence and observations on the scene suggest that White had been consuming alcoholic beverage(s). The final cause of death and toxicology results are pending an autopsy to be performed by Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Baltimore, Maryland.
At this time it appears that vehicle speed and driver condition are factors that contributed to the collision.
Crash Reconstruction Team is investigating the events that led up to the collision.
