Each year, the Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA), a major professional association servicing the needs of 18,000 appointed and elected local, state, and provincial-level government officials and other finance practitioners, evaluates the County’s current fiscal year budget for how well it serves as a policy document, a financial plan, an operations guideline, and a communications device. If this document is rated at least “proficient” by the criteria within all four categories and 14 mandatory criteria within those four categories, the entity will receive the Distinguished Budget Presentation Award. As the letter reads, “this award is the highest form of recognition in governmental budgeting and represents a significant achievement by your organization.”
For the 18thstraight year, we are pleased that Calvert County has received the Distinguished Budget Presentation Award, which is granted to the Finance & Budget Department as we are designated as being primarily responsible for receiving the award.
There are many employees who work diligently every day to ensure the County maintains the highest quality in financial budgeting; they take great pride in what they do and it shows in the results. Every year we strive to make the budget document more useful and meaningful to all of County government and the citizens it serves.
