On May 14, 2018, law enforcement officers, family and friends, gathered at Fraternal Order of Police Lodge 7 at 6 pm in the outdoor pavillion to honor all members who have passed.
The President, Mike Boyer, and Vice President Scott Ruest, presided over the service. The St Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office Honor Guard presented colors andraised and lowered the flags. Chaplain Charlie Wharton offered prayers and Sheriff Tim Cameron offered remarks on those who choose to serve and protect.
President Mike Boyer read the names of all active members who have passed, while his wife offered the names of all associates who have passed. The bell in the steeple tolled for each name. Vice President Scott Ruest placed a wreath in remembrance. Martin Mumper played several selections on his bagpipes, and Taps were played on a bugle.
Sheriff Tim Cameron, along with Captain Steve Hall, presented pins to all the members of the St Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office Honor Guard, to be worn on their uniforms.
Refreshments were served following the memorial in the lodge, giving those in attendance a chance to talk and remember many of those who were no longer with them.
