Performing For His Home Town

The Chesapeake Orchestra will continue the 17th season of the River Concert Series on Friday, June 26 on the banks of the St. Mary’s River at St. Mary’s College of Maryland. The concert will focus around the composers “Wit, humor, and brilliance,” with guest Nathaniel Silberschlag on French Horn. The concert will feature the wit and humor of Rossini’s Barber of Seville, Mozart’s Concerto No. 4 and the brilliance of Haydn’s Symphony No. 104 “London”. Maestro Jeffrey Silberschlag, director and conductor of the Chesapeake Orchestra, is the proud father of 16 year-old soloist Nathaniel Silberschlag who grew up around music with 16 professional musicians in his family. He will be attending Julliard in the fall. The concert will begin at 7 pm with the gates opening at 5 pm. A new concert will be held every Friday through July 24th on the colleges Townhouse Green. Concert guests who attend this free event are encouraged to bring their own picnic or purchase food from various vendors. Nathaniel Silberschlag began early, debuting in Italy at age 9. Born in St. Mary’s County, he has since received the Kovner Fellowship at The Juilliard School in New York, where he will begin in Fall, and is a recent graduate of the National Symphony Orchestra Youth Fellowship program after attending the National Symphony Orchestra’s Summer Music Institute last Summer and again this Summer at the Kennedy Center. His teacher at the Kennedy Center, Sylvia Alimena, horn of the National Symphony Orchestra, said, “ Nathaniel is a rare musical talent with a beautiful musical soul.”

The concert “Wit, humor, and brilliance” will include the G. Rossini Overture to Italian in Algiers, G. Rossini Overture to Barber of Seville, 
G. Rossini Overture to Cinderella, 
W.A. Mozart Concerto No. 4 for Horn with
Nathaniel Silberschlag on Horn and conclude with J. Haydn Symphony. No. 104 “London”. Maestro Jeffrey Silberschlag, director and conductor of the Chesapeake Orchestra said, “Rossini’s music is often used in Italian films and I am sure everyone will recognize the tunes”.

The River Concert Series is a family friendly event that sets out to inspire the audience with the musical talent and passion of the Chesapeake Orchestra and their famous guest artists in a way that brings world-renowned music to thousands of people through July 24th.

Silberschlag’s extensive experience within the musical world includes guest conducting the London Symphony, London Philharmonic. St. Petersburg Soloists, Orchestra Filharmonici di Torino, Symphony Orchestra of Rumania, Bulgarian Philharmonic, La Scala Virtuosi, Prague Chamber Orchestra, Salzburg Chamber Orchestra and the Moscow Academy Chamber Orchestra. He has also collaborated with other professional musicians such as pianist Brian Ganz, Yi Jia Hou and Melissa Errico presented master classes at numerous Universities around the world and was named Music Director of the Maryland Youth Symphony Orchestra in Baltimore this past June.

Since its creation by Silberschlag in 1994 the Chesapeake Orchestra has brought their first-class professional music to over 400.000 people, won the Governor’s Tourism Impact Award and received many other accolades.
