On Tuesday, October 2, 2018, a request from Lt Col Dave McDowell of the Calvert County Sheriff’s Office (CCSO) for $76,185 from the School Speed Zone Safety Cameras was approved. The funds will be used to upgrade the current technology on the MCV, which is now obsolete. Calvert County Sheriff’s Office staff, Technology Services staff, and private vendors have identified the new technology that will bring the MCV up to current optimal operating standards. This comprehensive, all-inclusive technology upgrade will cost $76,185.00.
Having rejected the request last week at the commissioners’ meeting, due to Public Safety and the State’s Attorney’s Office not being consulted on the use of the funds, both Public Safety Director Jackie Vaughan and State’s Attorney Laura Martin signed off on the memorandum. The funding was approved 5-0.
