On Sunday afternoon, approximately forty girls participated in fun and games, while helping SMILE with food donations. Hailey Pierce, a member of Girl Scout Troop 5145 explained that the scouts were from a number of troops-Brownies, Daisies and Juniors, and this event would help them earn their Bronze Award. Hailey said her troop has thirteen members, ages 11 and 12. The other t6roops who participated were 4160, 4502, 3904, 6692, 4236, 1322, 6204, 4545 and 1244.
To earn this award, the scouts needed to spend nine hours on their project. They placed boxes for food donations for SMILE around their communities, especially in shopping centers. The donations were picked up and sorted and bagged for the SMILE Food Pantry. Each girl was asked to bring three cans of food to donate and $6. The money was to cover the cost of the supplies and the badges. Any money left over would be donated to SMILE.
Today, at the Great Hall on the Middleham and St Peter’s Campus, and next door to SMILE, the girls were ready for the activities at each station. There were 6 stations set up and each scout was assigned to one of them; and each one was noted by its color for their team. During each of the six activities scheduled, there was a two minute jog around the parking lot. The final activity was to pack the food donations that were brought in by the girls and for SMILE, an encouraging quote on a piece of recycled paper.
On a table next to registration, were items for sale by Troop 5145 such as a pack of 6 handmade coasters and a package of six chocolate candies. For $5, who could resist the items?
