Brings fresh ideas on sustainability to the community
The Green Living Festival & Market, Southern Maryland’s leading sustainability event, will be held on Saturday, June 1 from 9:00 AM – 2:00 PM at Annmarie Sculpture Garden & Arts Center (13470 Dowell Road, Solomons, MD). Hosted by the Calvert County Citizens Green Team, and formerly called the “Calvert Green Expo,” the event has a new name and a new focus to bring the freshest ideas in sustainable living!
The family-friendly festival is free and open to the public. Green Living is an event that will engage and enlighten people of all ages with interests in sustainable, healthy lifestyles. Over 50 vendors, exhibitors and crafters will be offering eco-friendly products and services, and providing information about programs and systems. Gain valuable information about solar and geothermal energy systems, recycling, eliminating single use plastic, socially conscious investing and much more. Presentations and demonstrations throughout the day will share the many ways that plants, air, water, soil and energy sustain our homes, our health, and our planet. Vendors will share information and have activities and giveaways for all.
Want to finally set up that rain barrel that you’ve been thinking about? Pre-purchase the barrel at www.annmariegarden.org, learn how to install it during a 45-minute workshop at the festival and take it home ready to get started. Pre-registration is recommended as space is limited. The workshop is free; Rain Barrels are $30/Calvert and St. Mary’s County residents and $65 for non-residents. The sessions at 10:00am and 11:00 am.
Kickoff of a year-long “Plastic Bag Drive” will be happening at the event. Attendees are encouraged to bring unwanted plastic bags and wraps for collection.
The Festival will feature local foods and spirits, along with entertainment. Tickets will be given out at the welcome table for door prizes that will be awarded throughout the day. Children will enjoy recycled art projects and activities; such as getting stamps on a Green Passport, decorating reusable bags and feeding the “Trash Dragon”. Buy local and shop a variety of green vendors for gifts and ideas.
The event is sponsored by Exelon – Calvert Cliffs Nuclear Power Plant; SMECO; Edward Jones; Gentle Green Dental ; Cove Point Natural Heritage Trust; Perfect Air Gallery LLC; Calvert County Democratic Women’s Club; Holiday Inn Solomons; and HD Squared Architects, LLC.
