On Sunday, January 10th, at 2 pm, Middleham and St. Peter’s Parish will present its Fifth Annual Big Conversation. This popular forum, that draws many diverse community groups together, will address what maybe its most important community topic yet: Gun Violence: Finding Common Ground.
Building on the prospective of local community leaders, the forum will examine how gun violence is affecting our communities of Calvert and St. Mary’s Counties. It will examine what is being done to prevent incidents such as Newtown and Charleston and what each of us can do to stop gun violence. This is not a forum on gun control. It is a forum to help us all listen to each other and find common ground, so we can protect our children, our teens, those with behavioral issues and our personal rights as American citizens.
Gun violence must stop, our faith tells us, “Thou Shalt Not Kill”. Come learn what we, you can do. Bring a friend or neighbor.
The panel will include:
Laurence Polsky, MD – Health Officer – Calvert County
Captain Steve Jones, Special Operations – Calvert County Sheriff’s Office
Lisa Miller Delity – Regional Director – “Heeding God’s Call”
Reverend Tom Slawson – St. Peter’s Ellicott City
Kathleen Glaser – Public Educator and Facilitator – St. Mary’s County
Wednesday’s session from 7:00-8:30 p.m. will focus on examining gun violence in the context of your faith and specific strategies to stop gun violence. The optional potluck supper starts at 6:15 p.m. in the Parish Hall.
You are welcome to attend Wednesday evening even if you can’t come Sunday.
All are Welcome. The event is FREE.
