Along the shore of the Patuxent River, Kings Landing Park has a history stretching back to Captain John Smith’s exploration and earlier. Once an active farm and later a YMCA camp, it is now managed by Calvert County’s Natural Resources Division. Kayakers, canoeists, and fishermen enjoy Kings Landing’s access to the river, nearby creeks, and marshes.
Wayside exhibits, funded by the Chesapeake Bay Gateways Network, help visitors learn about the significance of the river and the abundant wildlife that depend on it. Hiking trails are open and beckon you and your dog for a jaunt.
The new equestrian facility includes a 150 x 300 riding ring, judge’s stand, restrooms, and water hydrants. It is suggested that equine enthusiasts call ahead to check on availability.
Our picnic pavilions and Tom Wisner Hall are perfect for group picnics, family reunions, wedding receptions and other events. These facilities require advance reservations and appropriate fees apply. Interested in overnight camping, the park offers primitive camping for youth groups.
Kayak, canoe and stand-up paddleboard rentals are available from May-November through a concession with SUP2U Rentals. For additional information: SUP2URentals.com or call 202-417-8728
Education programs are offered throughout the year, sponsored by the Battle Creek Nature Education Society. Check out the calendar of events.
