Huntingtown High School freshman student, Sydney Atkins, under the leadership of head Coach Kandia Spain, a retired teacher, won the Maryland Public Secondary Schools Athletic Association2018 3A State Championship in Girls Swimming and Diving.
During the 3A/2A/1A South Regional Meet, in which the team finished first, Sydney received four First Place ribbons for the 100 Freestyle and 100 Backstroke, and as a team, she anchored the 200 Medley and 400 Free Relays, and she set new Meet records.
The Calvert Board of County Commissioners (BOCC) wished to pay tribute to Sydney Atkins of Huntingtown High School and her swim team for the dedication, many long hours of practice, fine performance, and accomplishments. On Tuesday, April 10, 2018, the BOCC presented a proclamation to Sydney Atkins, proclaiming sincere congratulations and best wishes for continued success on winning the Maryland Public Secondary Schools Athletic Association -2018 3A State Championship for Girls Swimming and Diving-100 yard Backstroke.
The BOCC further proclaimed that they joined with the community, fellow students, educators and the many friends of Sydney, wishing her continued success in all her future endeavors.
