High Wind Warning Declared for Calvert County & Western Shore of the Chesapeake Bay
A High Wind Warning has been issued for Calvert County through 12 p.m. January 23, 2016. Wind gusts between 55 mph to 65 mph will be persistent. A High Wind Warning is issued when the following conditions are occurring or imminent:
1) sustained winds of 40 mph or higher for one hour or more, OR
2) wind gusts of 58 mph or higher for one hour or more.
A Blizzard Warning remains in effect. A Blizzard Warning is issued when winds of 35 mph or greater are combined with blowing and drifting snow with visibility of ¼ mile or less. Seek indoor shelter immediately and stay indoors until the severe conditions end. Heavy snowfall, high winds and dangerous wind chills will continue to occur.
Both Maryland and Calvert County remain in a State of Emergency that took effect 7 a.m. Friday, Jan. 22, 2016.
The Calvert County Department of Public Safety urges all citizens to stay off the roads until the blizzard passes.
