This is another of the restaurants participating in Calvert County’s Restaurant Week.
The Hilton Garden Grille is located just off the lobby in the Hilton Garden Inn in Dowell, but open so you can watch the coming and going of the guests staying there. Wanting to check the menu before going, we discovered there is no menu online for this place. When asked, we were told it was being revised and would be up on site soon. The atmosphere was pleasant with enjoyable music playing. The vodka and soda was definitely made with a generous pour and was tasty, as was the wine.
Checking out the appetizer choices, we decided on the Mandarin Orange Shrimp. It was displayed very nicely in a large martini glass. The sauce was delicious but the shrimp were pretty small.
For entrées we ordered the Fiesta Cobb Salad, the Baja BBQ Flatbread and the Mobley Burger with a side of fries. Named after Conrad Hilton’s first hotel, our signature Mobley Burger is one half pound of charbroiled certified Angus beef, garnished with lettuce, red onions, pickle, and sliced tomato, served on a toasted white or wheat bun. The hamburger was “good”(the bun was awesome), the fries were nice and hot, and nicely seasoned.
Baja BBQ Chicken Flatbread consists of Chicken, Applewood Bacon, Cheese, Onion, BBQ Sauce, Avocado, Cilantro and Chipotle Ranch on Flatbread. The flatbread pizza was a touch spicy and the avocado was not quite ripe. The taste was very good and the spiciness was calmed well by a nice cold beer. It had a nice presentation and was plated well.
The Fiesta Cobb Salad was fresh greens tossed in cucumber-Ranch dressing, topped with blackened chicken, diced eggs, diced tomatoes, bacon bits, crumbled Bleu Cheese and an avocado wedge. The greens were fresh as advertised and the side order of fries completed the meal.
For dessert we chose the Chocolate Molten Cake a warm chocolate cake with chocolate fudge filling, served with vanilla ice cream, and topped with white chocolate sauce, the traditional Apple Pie ala Mode, a delicious hot apple pie served with a scoop of vanilla ice cream and the Crème Brulee Raspberry Cheesecake, a Raspberry Cheesecake topped with fresh strawberries and raspberry sauce. All 3 desserts were plated attractively and were delicious. I especially recommend the hot lava cake, but the cheesecake and apple pie were excellent as well.
Although the food was quite good for a limited menu, the service was ridiculously slow. The server was inattentive and seemed to lack interest in serving the dining area. What should have been a casual 45 minute meal took almost 2.5 hours to accomplish.
