On May 28, 2018, at 11:05 am, there was a fire and explosion at 4135 Sparkleberry Court, Prince Frederick. The Prince Frederick Volunteer Fire Department responded. There was a smoke alarm present but it was unknown if it activated.
The owners arrived home and detected an unknown odor within the structure. While attempting to locate the source, an explosion occurred within the basement. The neighbors assisted with removing the owners from the home. The owners of the home were both transported to MedStar Washington with non-life threatening injuries.
The one-story single family home sustained $250,000 in damage to the structure and $100,000 to its contents.
Deputy State Fire Marshals remain on the scene investigating the cause of the incident.
